Hmm...

Wed Nov 5, 2008, 6:04 AM
Definitely not all that excited with the election results--I wasn't all too fond of either candidate, really, but what surprises me (and not in a good way) is how many people I've seen have been 'sobbing for joy' or of the mind that somehow, the results imply an end to what's wrong with this country...when I look at the way our new president chose to promote himself, and even his stances on the issues, all I foresee as happening in the next four years is an increased presence of the root problem in this country: a lack of personal responsibility, and an expectation, and even a presumption that it's not only someone else's fault when things don't go our way, but that it's their responsibility to take care of us, too.

There's definitely things that need to be 'fixed' within this country, like our medical system (to name one example)--but having grown up overseas (in Southern France) under socialized medicine, I think that most americans don't realize just how crappy the quality of healthcare can be (and usually is, comparatively) in that sort of system--and I don't think that to take that path to fixing it is going to really give very good results, in the long run.

That's not to say, I guess, that I'm all doom and gloom over the election, either--I'm just kind've getting tired of the overexaggerated response to it, given that I think a lot of our new president's ideals are simply -too- idealistic to be feasible. With that said, it's going to be an interesting next 4 years, I think, no matter how you look at it.
